• Late-night socializers: Not so much. With a strict 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. quiet policy and a firm “no visitors” rule, this is not a party campground.

In short: Country Bumpkins is best for families, couples and solo travelers who want a quiet base camp in a prime White Mountains location. And it’s a hiker’s dream.

When you pull in, you’ll find a comfortable oval-shaped campground with a pretty duck pond in the middle and campsites that are, by almost every account, close together. Many are perched right along the Pemigewasset River, which enhances your privacy with soothing water sounds at night.

The owners, Diane and Mario, are very hands-on and are known for strictly enforcing policies. Some campers really value this (especially campers and families who want peace and quiet).
